Touchy brake on 300

My left brake is very touchy on my F300. I removed the drum and cleaned everything including the ramps and balls. This improved it to the point that I can use it without locking up but it still is too touchy for much use. When I press the pedal you can hear a click from the drum area like the expanders are hitting their stops on the drum. Would replacing the discs help this? They do not look very worn and I replaced them about 6 years ago with not too much use on them. If the drum needs to be turned how much should I tell the shop to take off the mounting surface?

Much appreciated!

That's exactly what's happening. The braking surfaces have worn to the point where the actuator mechanism goes over-center and locks up.

I can remember hundreds of discussions on this in this forum over the years, but darned if I can find more than two of them in a search!!!

There is some specification for the difference in height from the brake disks and actuator stacked in the drum, to the edge of the drum.

Mine on the 450 lock up when hitting the brakes going forward. I was blaming it on the grooves wore in the spline where the pads make contact.
