There is a local guy selling a h . It has a live hyd pump off the distributor . He said something in the pump broke and now the motor won't turn over. Anyone else have this happen or have any ideas what broke and what it would cost to fix it? Thanks

The cam/distributor drive gears were not designed to run a hydraulic pump. Most of the time it's okay, but particularly if you "dead head" the system, or things get worn, things can break.

Depending on the seller's definition of "turn over" it may be a simple cheap fix, or a complicated fairly inexpensive fix.

"Turn over" REALLY means that the rotating assembly of the engine moves when you engage the starter. However, some people equate "turn over" to "won't start."

If the engine actually "turns over" but "won't start" it is likely just a sheared woodruff key on the distributor drive gear. This is a fairly cheap and easy fix. No heavy lifting. You may discover that the pump is seized, and as such you could just replace it with the OEM spacer that was originally there, if it's not there already.

If the engine won't "turn over" and is actually "locked up" you will need to pull the front cover off the engine and see what broke. Parts won't break the bank, but the entire front end of the tractor will need to be removed.

I agree you can buy a running engine h/sh/300/350 for 400-800 or if you are mechanically inclined fix it yourself for much less.
