Last thing to do before starting after my overhaul is getting the
distributor installed. So to line up the timing marks under the
clutch housing i was going to tap the starter a few times and
look for the marks. Tapped once, crank revolved a few degrees
and now wont crank at all. Starter is working, and i turned the
motor over many times when it was out of the tractor. Did i
install the clutch wrong? What would be causing this? I am
hoping that the tractor doesnt have to be split again.

Loosen the bolts on the starter and shake the starter to make sure the bendix isn't stuck.

Pull all the sparkplugs to make sure there's no coolant on top of the pistons then see if the engine can be cranked. Hal

Plugs are out, coolant not put in yet, was waiting til distributor was in. Using the hand crank i cannot get any more rotation in either direction by hand. Something is definitely bound up.

I just pulled the hyd pump back out of its location and i can now rotate the crank by hand freely. I have some figuring to do here but the gears were binding somehow.

Yes!! I got it all figured out, bolt from the front cover was about .o50 to .100" long.

The only way that you would have known that was to do it yourself at one time.....
