1466 wheel wedges

Are the wheel wedge sets from case ih dealer any better than aftermarket sets? Titan wants 250 for one set, Abiline machine wants 125. I just got this 1466 and it has a loose wedge that looks worn, I think the wheel is ok. Didn't know if the dealer wedges are worth the extra 125 bucks. Thanks for any information.

I'm serious as a heart attack here....

I'd get a good set from a salvage yard.... Iron is iron.

The key to those darned things is to tighten 'em, drive, tighten, drive and tighten some more. Check often until you can't tighten any longer.

Now, in my humble opinion, you've got to get those clamp-on duals off of the tractor and go to the hub type. All of the torque of both wheels is working on that one set of wedges. No wonder they work loose.

Just my 2¢,

Allan

Allan is right about the duals. You'll never keep the wedges tight with the clamp on duals on there. Axle duals for those old girls are cheap nowadays.

Duals are coming off, just got it home, it will be a part time loader tractor and haying tractor so the duals won't be going back on.

One thing I've had trouble with is the rim clamps creeking on the 1086. Replacing the bolts with new ones $$$ helped but I had to tighten them with the 1" impact with the risk of twisting them off to get them tight enough.
