1086 / Hi range out?

Several weeks ago my 1086 started "double clutching". When you'd let the clutch out, it would engage twice. My IH mechanic said the linkage needed adjusted but of course I wanted to finish hay season before working on it. The other day I was raking and when I pushed it into Hi range, it started to drag the motor down like it was stuck in two gears. Low side is fine, works perfect. I think I'm going to pay the price for my procrastination. Where do I even begin to look for a solution? I'm afraid I know where this is going to end though.LOL. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ok, are you talking about the transmission Hi range or the TA Hi range (aka Direct)?

"Double clutching" is actually the TA engaging in TA as you let the clutch out, and then shifting to Direct. It can be a linkage adjustment, but it is usually a sign that the TA is on its way out.

Procrastination or not, you were going to end up with an expensive repair ahead of you IMHO.
