484 cab tractor

Hi, I have to go look at the neighbors 484 cab tractor that is leaking oil from the clutch housing split. Does this tractor have a dry clutch? is it leaking oil from the front of the transmission? I have not worked of these before and looking for any input before I start. thank you in advance

Hi, is it gas or Diesel?
It is a dry clutch. Determine if it is transmission or engine oil. Can be leaking from transmission around PTO, transmission input shaft and there is also another cover in bottom left of transmission inside clutch housing. See link to 886 PTO, 484 is similar.
If engine oil it could be rear main oil seal leaking. You will have to remove flywheel to access. My brother's 684 had been leaking a little engine oil into the clutch housing for years. When we did a clutch job and had flywheel turned, we found the bolts on the rear main oil seal were loose, we tightened them to spec and it hasn't leak since, over 10 years ago.

Hope this helps

It is a diesel and we know it is hydraulic fluid as it is the only fluid going down. He has through more than 10 gallons in the last month. Looks like I have a full split in my future!

Hi, my link did not work so go to page 2 of this form and look at photos in the 886 IPTO thread.
This photo is from a large frame IH tractor but 484 is very similar.

For the oil seals around PTO and transmission input shaft. Like I said previous there is another end cap that has a seal around it. Our local IH mechanic just used RTV gasket sealer on the end cap.
