planning the next project

hello everyone ,we started to reasemble the firt 622 and thinking about the second one .it is an earlier one would like to make it a belt drive . the problem will be finding parts. what do you guys think?

If you mean a 420-422 series, they are a lot easier to work on, and the engines are easy to obtain, basically a 560 engine with a different front cover; but overall, parts are going to be hard to find. I haven't seen a 400 series cotton picker in these parts in 10 or more years. They used to be as plentiful as old M's and H's, but nowadays, they are very rare. Trouble is, they aren't fun to tinker with the way an old tractor is, and so a lot of them have long since been hauled away by the scrap metal man. But if you can find a couple of them, I'm sure you could make at least one that would run and work. I've even got a few old parts for them: shims for the picker bars and doffers, stuff like that. Let me know if you're interested. Hugh

Hi Hugh ,I have looked for a 400 series and no luck . I already have the three 622.but the at her day a friend told me of one that by the discription it might be a 422.its in another town.I will let u know later.

Gaston, I think that there is one called a 416 that is basically a 420 or 422 that is intended for "dry land cotton" which of course is pretty common out West where you live. It was basically a 420 or 422 that had 16 spindles per bar, instead of 20 (420) or 22 (422). The same thing applied to the 600 series. Apparently these shorter-spindle pickers were a lot less common than their taller spindle counterparts. Hugh

Actually I saw one far from the road today. It has to be a 400 series cus it looks smaller than mine from about the same distance . looks like there is no heads.
