collectable tractors

If I were to have a collection of so called antique Farmall/IH tractors , what would be the top 5 choices. I want most desirable, most valuable. I wouldn"t go later than 1972.

Be careful with the word valuable, do not consider this an investment, because they seem to be going down in price as interest wanes. There are many different definitions of restored, and the seller usually overstates the word restored. A "restored" tractor is not worth much more than a beat up one.

Pick out ones that you like to look at and play with.

I already own/have owned some....Here goes: F-20;M/SM;450D;560D;1026H;1206/1256. Bhey! Any old IH would be desireable in my (working) collection!!!!

I like the 50's era tractors so my five would be as follows. Hebard Shop Mule, BN, Super C, Super H, & Super MDTA. To each his own. LOL.

Delta Red, That tractor would have been one to have kept. You can bet there were not many made like that one! Don't believe I have seen anything but Dsl powered 826s! I am sure that there were Gas versions we just don't see them here in Texas!

If you want the highest dollar IH tractors go with any of the Titans or Moguls. A few of them have sold in the last few years for over 200,000. But a good 560,806,1206,1256, or 1456 would be great also.

Most collectable tractors may be near or past their peak prices. Buy what you like and can afford, then enjoy them. Very few will actually be profitable investments.

I like big tractors for some reason. My pics.
Farmall M
1206
1456
1466
1568
All my dream tractors would be open station with ROPS and canopy. Thanks Kent

You have to collect whats right for you. The most valuable might not be offordable for you. Whats the most desireable for one guy, might not be something you would even want to have at all. I have an F-20. I like it for a collector piece. Its not very rare or valuable. It was a mass produced tractor, and thousands have been scrapped. Just a guess, 1 out of 10 probly survive today in an operational condition. Just cause I feel this way, doesn't meen you would want to have one. It has alot to do with what you are going to do with your collection. Use them, parade them, show them, house them in a muesem, hord them in a shed, invest money in them now and liquidate later for profit. These factors alone are not going to allow any one tractor to fit into all factor's. If it qualify's for one factor, it might be completely dis-qualified for another factor.

I have a: Super C,200,stage1 SH,stage 2SH , and a 300. SC,200,&300 have fast hitch. The 1954 Stage 2 Super H is the most collectable and valuable in my stable. Having said that it probably worth $2500.

I have collected most of the small point fast hitch implements and they have far more value and collectibility than the tractor.

To me anyway:)

for high value tractors you might try to find 450 highcrop lpg. Only 5 were made??? another would be 600 gas only 39 made. On the newer side a 2 + 2 last one made 7488-7688??? only 16 made. If this is your choice. You will need a deep pocket

Mine are the most desirable &valuable to me.
They are;
1 1945 H
2 SMTA L.P. single front
3 1955 Farmall 400 F.H. single front
4 1955 Farmall 560 F.H. wfe, gas
5 1953 Farmall S.C. F.H. wfe
6 1955 Int.300 U F.H.
7 1966 Farmall 806 L.P. wfe
Sorry its seven can not pick one over other. love them all.lol
At this point could not sell any of them. But I suspect when my estate sells them they'll be lucky to get 10% of what I have invested. Tony

You stated '72 and older, so that pretty much limits you to the *40/*60 series and older. As for value, it's either very old or very rare and of course condition when you buy it. After that, you need to decide on if you want to stick with a particular series, do you plan to actually use any of them or just for show or do you want a sample from several series. Everyone has their own ideas and many you have gotten so far are probably what that poster has or do not fit your criteria. Only you can decide how you would like your collection to look. A little more information on what style you like would be helpful.... older unstyled, letter series, etc.
Personally, I prefer letter or early number series tractors (especially w/Fast Hitch), but that's just me. I only have a 240U w/3point, but I don't think I would "collect" the 40/60 series unless they were something I needed to [u:0e85deed3d]use[/u:0e85deed3d] on a regular basis.

The true gold demos, anything with a factory Coleman front,Hours under 1500 and tractors that are all original with excellent paint .Then your model numbers 1206,1456,are the two hottest ones.I just sold 5 1456 open stations and have people still calling.
