followup to entertaining at IH dealer

Around early 70's I went to the dealership with dad and they had a new parts man who was cocky and arrogant and a know it all. Well a fellow asked for spark plugs for his M D . The parts man went on a rant about dumb farmers and diesels don't use spark plugs blah blah blah. Boy did he eat crow in front of several customers when the fellow pointed out the part number in the book. He had lots of run ins and drove business away over the years but lasted till case took over ,then he was gone.

I dont have any diesels, but am curious about this. Were they an early version of glow plugs or did they really have a conventional spark plug like a gas motor?

Even when someone is brilliant, and does know almost everything, eventually they all get put in their place. i wouldnt like to deal with someone like that when looking for parts.

Early IH diesels started on gas ,they had spark plugs ,carb.,distributor, then once warm swap to diesel and it had injectors, and injection pump

He must have been a relative to the owner to stay around that long. That is the typical way an employee stays a lot longer than he should.

But your comment until case took over they never did take over it was a merger you sound like some of those orange or what ever color they used and got dropped upon the merger.

Well, Tenneco purchased the Ag division of IH and then merged it into JICase which it already owned. So you could say that Tenneco took over.
