Farmall H axle housing

I'm replacing the axle carrier gaskets and seals
on a Farmall H. I noticed a hole in the housing
that looked like an imperfection in the casting. I
looked at another housing I have and that one has
it too. Anyone know if this is an imperfection, or
maybe an oil passage or something else?

Can you give us a hint where this hole you are referring to is located?
