F-series brake installation/troubleshooting tips?

I'm installing new brakes on an F-12. Installed new linings I received from Rice Equip. Had a pair of drums that were in great shape. Cleaned everything up really well. I didn't leave any shims on the shoes. Now the right side is bound up so tight I can't roll the tractor in neutral.

What have you guys ran into while rebuilding these brake systems? Any tips on what to look for? Tips on final adjustments after I get everything in running order?

I realize it's all pretty straight forward. The manual is rather vague on describing much. I'm just looking for real hands on advice from those of you who are experts on these.

They are ultra simple. Since there are no shims, some
grinding may be in order.Grind on the shoe, not the
cam.Or you may have to get the drum turned. measure
drum ID,and Shoe OD (installed)It's possible whoever
relined got too muchthickness on the linings. The
only 'adjustment' is a little setscrew on the
handle. Set it how you like it. not too tight, not
too loose.,

The ones I got from Rice for my 14 were the same way.
Used my belt sander to trim them down a little. As
little light as my 14 sees, these will outlast my
grandkids! Just make sure they are returning when you
pull the handle back, and that the cable isnt bound
up on that side.

Take the shoes and a drum to a brake/clutch shop and have them grind them down so they fit in the drum.
Might be cheaper to have the brake/clutch shop re-line them.
