C vs Super C

Kansas State fair yesterday, I drove a friend's tractor in for the antique tractor show, then spent most of the day talking to old friends and examining tractors. A friend and I were comparing a C and SC there and my contention was the front emblem was reversed on the two. Asking here to see what is right. I was under the impression all the regular letter series, C, H, M they had the longer "Farmall" emblem on the grill, at least the H and M did. Then all the Supers had a smaller rectangular (almost square) "IH" on the grill. On these two, the C had the IH and the Super had the long Farmall emblem.
Am I right or wrong? Dad had both and I'm sure that's the way they were, and if the H/SH and M/SM are that way, I'd think the C/SC would also. I'm not a "correct police" or anything, as neither was intended to be 100% correct from what I saw, but were nice looking regardless.

I have a 49 c, one owner all original. It has the small square IH
emblem. I'm pretty sure all the c tractors had the same
emblem. The others didn't change until the supers.

The C and SC both used the longer "FARMALL" written out on the grill. The IH emblem did not show up until the 200 model change.

Old Weldor has it right. The familiar "IH" logo came along in about 1944 (and was added to the hood side sheet decals). After that, it was applied to the grill of each tractor as the new models came out. The first was the Cub (decal) then the Super A followed by the C (both metal stampings).

Still seems to be some disagreement as usual here

Dad had both, but I was much more familiar with the Super C because I was in HS by that time and ran it much more (pretty much every day for about 4 years) than the C. I'm almost positive it had the IH emblem and not the long Farmall one.
Anyway, something did not look quite right when I was looking at them. I believe the C was shown as a '49 and the SC said '53. I just thought the long Farmall emblem on the Super grill stuck out like a sore thumb, but there was no doubt it was a SC... C-123, disk brakes, curved pedals, taller grill and space under the gas tank, hydraulic temp guage (which was broken), etc.

The C and SC both had the narrow I-H emblem just look at any pic when those were new and you will not find the wide Farmall emblem on the front hood as it was never there just because you seen one at a show doesent make them original there is too much bad info from i seen one at a show.

I'm not going to argue over something that can be looked up. As Gene said, check vintage pictures of original tractors. Or you can look in a parts catalog of the proper age and see the same. You can't always rely on later parts catalogs as parts substitutions can throw you off.

I don't have a dog in this fight but do have the two different IHC part manuals for the C and Super C. They both show the same ID plate on the front grille part no. 352580R1 which is the rectangle shaped metal stamped one held onto the grille with a single No. 6 sheet metal screw.

wow you guys.the supers all had the IH logo and the regulars had the farmall across the front, the only tractor that didn't was the cub,,it had the IH logo on a decal...if you have something different,it was changed throughout the years by someone,or someone changed the grill for some reason.

Well, after all this, I'm of the opinion the Super C at the show was wrong, but the regular C maybe could have had either. Of course my "opinion" doesn't mean much, but I noticed it so quickly because as I said, it really looked out of place.
Dad bought a new C in '49 or '50, but I was 7 or 8 years old, so I didn't pay much attention to things like that.... I just wanted to drive it. Then he bought a new "carry-over" Super C in about Mar. of '56 which was shortly before I turned 14... I ran the heck out of it until I left for the service in Jan. '61. I imagine I put 10 times the hours on it that Dad did as he also worked off the farm and I did most of the field work and serviced the tractor.

If you check Guy Fay's book "Farmall Letter Series
Tractors" on page 48 he states that the IH plate
was used at the beginning of C production. There
may have been some pre-production ones with the
"Farmall" plate, but no production ones. Guy is
usually correct.

I have two Super C's, 1953 and 1954: both are unrestored
original and have the little squarish IH logo. I kind of like the
look of the long farmall logo though. If I had one, I might put it
on. Original, or not. :)

All C & Super C tractors had the Ih emblem on the grill
As far as Tim's comment he's wrong people on this site should not comment if they don't know what they are talking about

If you have a C with a Farmall emblem on the grille, it's because someone smashed the original grille and use one from an A, or B as a replacement, or intentionally changed the emblem.

Alright boys, here are the facts:

A, B, H, M, all had the FARMALL across the front, super or not

Cubs and C's had the rectangular IH on the grill, super or not.

I have two C's and a super C, and they all have the little IH, and that is what the parts book for them shows... Not sure why, but like I said, C/SC's were the only ones other than the cubs to have the IH on them...

I`m with you Roger.Guy has spent ALOT of time at the McCormick Archives doing research for his books and I believe him when he says that both C & SC used IH emblem.I`ve seen a few C`s over the years with the Farmall emblem, but think the grills were taken off a B, or maybe the owner put a Farmall badge on `cause he like the looks. Vast majority of the straight C`s I`ve ever seen had IH emblem on them.
