885 vibration

I need help, I have a 885 that has a vibration in the power steering and the pto. Lift works fine. I have changed the fluid and filters. thanks Gary

Hi Gary, could you give some more info on the
vibration? When you engage the PTO? When PTO is
driving an implement? Power steering vibration?
All the time? or when you turn the steering wheel?

Is it hydraulic related? How many hours on the
tractor?

The power steering all the time, the pto when driving emplements, and the hrs. not sure ,5000 or more.

Gary, you have to determine the source of the
vibration. Try using the old mechanic's trick
by holding a length of dowel or broomstick
against the engine and the other end against
your ear lobe. Keep moving the broomstick until
you find the source of noise or vibrations.
Possible sources:
1) Engine balance on front of engine under
crankshaft.
2) PTO shaft drive splines in pressure plate.
3) Hydraulic system that has dirt constricting
a valve.
Hydraulics on this tractor is run from a single
pump that is driven off the PTO shaft and
output goes to MCV valve that is where the
hydraulic filter is mounted. The MCV valve
splits the 12 or 15 GPM pump hydraulic flow
into 3 GPM for PS, PB, PTO and hydraulic oil
cooler and remainder goes to 3pt and remotes.
The PS has a 1500 PSI relief valve and the 3pth
and remotes have a 2250 PSI relief valve.

Make sure there is plenty of hydraulic fluid in
transmission and there is no hydraulic leaks
around hydraulic filter where pump would suck
air and cavitate.

Thanks Jim, I was told that it had 2 pumps as the lift works fine. The pump sounds as it has air in the sys. The top was taken off to replace a gear in the pto a few months ago, could one of the little O rings got nicked? It worked fine for 3 months of mowing as this tractor is used with a 9 ft brush hog. for 30 plus hrs weekly. Gary

Hi Gary, maybe I am confused about the which
885 model you. There was an IH model 885 build
in Doncaster UK with a German D-246 Diesel
engine.
Later when Case and IH merged this same tract
was marketed as CASEIH 885. See photos at:

Before this Case had a model 885 (formerly a
David Brown model).

The IH and CaseIH 885 model only has one
hydraulic pump with MCV valve that splits for
PS,PB,PTO and hydraulic oil cool and another
hydraulic circuit for 3pt and remotes. This
model has hydraulic filter under left side of
cab just below your left foot. The only ones
that had two hydraulic pumps were the
industrial models that had a pump mounted
mounted on front of tractor powered by connect
to front crankshaft pulley. This pump would run
only the loader and backhoe if equipped.

If you 885 has remote hydraulics, pull the
remote lever with nothing connected to the
remote outlets and the relief valve should
buzz. Sometimes this shocks the hydraulic
system enough to dislodge any dirt stuck in
valves. Also if it is air in the PS, turn PS
left and right to limits until the PS relief
valve buzzes.

Hope this helps
