have to run B with choke

this is giving me fits!!!!

I have to run my b with about 1/2 choke. it runs fine at 1/2
choke but I know it is wrong.

good flow to carb. good flow thru carb ( took plug out on bottom

have had the thing off 6 times. cleaned each time with wire and
compressed air. took the nozzels out and made sure they were
clean. needle out 1 1/2 turns.

I have checked timing . great spark. valves adjusted. good
compression. new plugs/wires. new manifold gasket ( put my
hand on the carb location and is sucks hard when turniing over)

I have literally done everything I can think of twice. The carb is
new ( I bought rebuilt from this site) . the float is set spot on.

I cannot image any blockage in the carb . I am sure it was
cleaned thoughly when it was rebuilt and I have been thru it 6
times.

I beg for an idea ! should i try the propane thing around the
manifold. Damn, this is frustrating!

Find a suitable container placing it under the carburetor, turn on the shutoff at the tank, remove the drain plug from the bottom of the float bowl and see if there is a steady pencil size stream of gas for a minute or so.
Do you have an in-line filter? That filter must be for gravity fuel systems, not pressure pump systems.
You may have to remove the sediment bowl from the tank to clean any residue from it. A new gasket is usually needed.

The flow should be OK because if the flow was weak, the tractor would die after a brief few seconds of choke. The issue is likely to be the main jet having a bit of trash in it, or the float level is too low. Jim

If you have good flow through the carb then I would look for leaks in the manifold next. Could be loose connections or a hole rusted through the intake side.

Is the gasdket between the carb and maniflod good and new they can leak there making the engine get too much air and air is not flowing thru the carb.

(quoted from post at 16:49:22 09/13/14) You can't get a pencil sized stream through the hole in the seat.

No but everything UP TO the needle seat is pencil sized, and anything less than a pencil-sized stream indicates a partial blockage that is only going to get worse over time.
