686, what cab would fit it?

Year-A-Round and Hiniker both made cabs to fit the 686. With some modifying I'am sure other cabs could be made to fit.
 
Hiniker and Year-a-round are practically identical to look at.

At this point they're 40 years old so if they're in good shape how bad can they possibly be?

One off a 1466 will not fit a 686 without modifications.
 
Year-A-Round,Hiniker,Ansel,Cozy,Excell,FullVision....Several MFGers made cabs that fit or could be modified to fit.I'ts been 40 years since new cabs were made for those tractors.So used is your only option.I dont believe there were many 656/666/686 tractors with cab.So you may need to find something and "modify".A 06/56 series would be easiest.Shown is a 706 with an Ansel 'Ace of Diamonds'.This cab was taken/'modifyed' from an 1130 Massey.It acctually fit pretty well.Just had to move the batterys to a different location.

Of the 'diamond' style cab,they are about equal.At this stage you need to concentrate on FINDING a cab.Not which is a "better" one.
 
Unless the primary use for this tractor is snow removal I wouldn't even consider a cab for it. The Year-Round and Hiniker cabs were nothing more than noise boxes but would keep the wind and cold off you in the winter.
 
I'm not familiar with 686's, but you might want to drive a 686 with a factory cab. Then maybe trade tractors if you want a nice cab.
 
I put a Hiniker off a 666 on my 86 Hydro (same tractor as the 686) and it was a direct fit. I'd guess even a 656 would be the same or pretty darn close,
 
I have 2 686s and one came with a year round cab. The very first thing i did was remove the cab they are junk no matter what kind they are. They are just a noise box. The 686 is really load and a cab like that just makes it worse. If you want a cab tractor just buy one like a 5130 maxim or some thing like that with a good cab on it. Thats just my opinion. Erik..
 
I have a good Hiniker or Year Round cab. Can't remember which it is. Everything is there. Sliding rear window. Paint is fairly good. Steps. I put a ROPS on and don't need the cab now. Would fit tractors like the 706, 806, 856, 966, etc. Probably would fit yours with little modification. East central / South east Iowa.
