I have a farmall H that I need some help with. It will start and run but when it is put under a load it will back fire and miss and will stop running. This will happen when I let out the clutch. I have clean the tank and the carburetor thinking that that may have some thing to do with it but the problem is still there.

First see if using the choke helps the matter any, when it starts acting up give it full choke and see if it will come back. If that doesn't do anything its probably electrical, I'm not any help with that. They are going to need to know if it has a mag or a distributor, did you check the firing order, have you checked the timing?

Most likely a lean carburetor. See if the problem diminishes with the choke partially closed, as Nate suggests. If it does the carburetor/fuel system needs further attention.

However if choking makes no change then look at the ignition. Dirty/worn plugs, plug gap too wide (should be 0.030), breaker gap too small (should be 0.020 for distributor; 0.017 for a mag), dirty/cracked dist cap, weak coil, tired plug wires, etc are all possibilities.

Put a can under the carb and remove the drain plug. it should fill a 2# coffee can in a minute or so. (let it run out for at least a minute to check real operational flow) There is a screen at the carb fitting that is often overlooked. Jim

i had an m that did that and this my sond dumb but they forgot to put the venturi back in the carb when it was rebuilt, yes it was denies and no he did not stand behind it.
