Blue smoke H

Well I got my 41 H running, and its running great. I took a bit of
time to get it running, figuring out why I didnt have spark, then I
had to really clean/rebuild the carb, twice. Then it wanted to go
but just wouldnt. I adjusted the timing, and now she runs like a
top. But, the question:

I have a pretty good bit of bluish white smoke at idle and while
motoring too. Im imagining this is just a matter of carb tuning
and that once I play with it a little more, the smoke will clear up.
What do you all think?

Could the timing have anything to do w the amount of smoke? I
did not time it with a light, yet. I did it by ear/feel, so although
running well, the timing could still be slightly too advanced or
retarded.

All thoughts, input, and advice appreciated. Thanks

Really didnt have to do too much. Got the tractor and it had no battery. I bought a brand new 6v battery and got new battery cables too. Rebuilt the starter and still had no spark. Cleaned and gapped the points to no avail so I replaced all the plugs, wires, points, condenser, and put a new coil on. Then I had spark but the tractor wouldnt run. I found a nasty hole on the backside of the exhaust manifold, so I threw a new manifold on it too. After all this, the tractor wanted to run, but wouldnt stay running. Until I spun the distributor about 1/4" adjusting the timing. Once I did that she fired right up and still does, and runs strong, like I said. Just a little smokey. Valves maybe? Rings?

what you need is to put it under load by working it for a few hrs. the rings may be sludged up and sticky from sitting.
you can time it spot on without a light. just line up the timing marks on compression on tdc. the with the ignition on turn the distributor opposite of rotor rotation. once you hear the spark snap that is where you snug it down.
or you can put a piece of paper between the points and then the moment the paper pulls out while turning dist that is the sweet spot, tighten there. timing generally has nothing to do with smoke. set the main jet on carb 2 1/2 turns out and the mixture 3/4- 1 turn out, that is a close starting point and just would require fine tuning.

How long had it sat before you got it then how long did it sit before you got it running. If it sat for a year or more likely that it has stuck rings so it needs a good old ATF treatment to free them up. Pour a 1/4 cup of ATF in the cylinders and let ti sit a day or 2. Put the plugs back in the keep dirt etc out. Then after a day or 2 pull the plugs and spin it over to clear the ATF out and run it and see if that clears it up

I am going to agree with David, blue smoke is usually oil in the combustion chamber, black smoke is too much fuel, white smoke is water. I would get her out and put the screws to her for a while.

I read no where on here if you changed the oil. I go along with you may need to work the snot out of it. Before I would work it hard I would change oil and filter and add Sea Foam to oil and fuel. Blue smoke is oil being burnt.
