Sorry to hear that, I wish you the best of luck.

There was a uppity housing development trying to get a guy in Quincy IL to take down the mini storage buildings he put up because the land wasn't zone commercial and the lights shinned into their uppity houses at night. I'm not sure how it all turned out but I do know the land, about 5 acres was zoned agricultural....I would have filled that place with hogs overnight if it were me. People need to mind their own business and this country would be an even better place to live.

put up a sign private musemam and keep the yard mowed and clean it looks like you got a good start on one so try that to keep them from making you move them

I believe the truck is not in violation. The Prop. Maint. Code I am familiair with used allow one unlicensed motor vehicle, and it had to be kept in good repair, and yours is in excellent repair.
Tractors are in good repair, and the State cannot license them anyway, so that question is moot.
Code prohibits scrap metals, junk, dilapidated machinery, etc., but the tractors do not appear to qualify. THe exact wording of the CVode is critical.
I"d say you are not in violation, and I"d sure ask to see the exact wording of their Code. They have to show it to you, and tell you exactly what Chapter and Verse and Section you are in violation of.

Tell the Mayor and city council that this is an historic monument celebrating the tractors that would have been driven by black sharecroppers back in the Jim Crowe era. Tell 'em that Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton are on their way to your place to hold a press conference honoring the sweat and labor of black farmers in shaping the agricultural history of your area.

They will be afraid to touch that with a 10' pole. Might even give you a city commendation. :D

Hi
Sorry to hear you might not win this. just thought back to your original post a while back. Didn't you say that you trailer'd the mayor and his buddys in parades with the tractors.

it might be worth saying if they have to go you won't feature in the towns parades anymore, and He and his buddys will have to walk or find alternative transport!. If they win I'd go round town and find everybody elses rule infractions and report them too, And that also means drive by the mayors and councilors place. I bet you could find 50 rules they are breaking pretty easy! .
Good luck
Regards Robert

looks like lawn art to me....
put some landscaping around them.
Can't see much difference with every other house around me with a couple rusty implements put in their flower beds,
or those silly pink flamingos.

But, if they tell ya you have to move them......
you really can't win that battle......know many who have tried and
got caught in an ever increasing, code for this, code for that, nightmare.

Buy a long trailer, put plates on it. put your 2 favorite tractors on it. You're getting ready to go to a show, right? :D

Do you have a place to store them inside?

If you do, that's where I'd put them, and avoid the whole mess. It has the added benefit of getting the tractors in out of the weather and preserving their condition.

Yes, in a way you're "giving in to the man" but it's a battle you're never going to win, and it's going to drive you bat-guano crazy if you keep fighting it.

Next thing we know you'll be putting crudely spray-painted plywood signs out in your front yard with derogatory messages about the local politicians. That doesn't help anybody, and just permanently ensconces you as the local "kook" which will make them want to drive you right out of the area completely.

Like the song says, "I fought the law and the law won!".... they will win almost very time.

We had some issues here with the code enforcer getting on our case because of our equipment. 3 tractors, bailer , rake ect etc. Told us they had to be undercover out of site. We were lucky and went to the town board and they said as long as we were a ''working '' farm we could keep a reasonable amount of equipment out for use. We are way out and nearest neighbor cannot see in our yard without binoculars. Turned out the code enforcer was just out to be an a hole and we never had another issue. Whole nother ball game in town though. Some people treasures are others junk..........

Not a bad idea...if there IS a law requiring a "permit to run a museum"...i'd bet that the permit costs one heck of a lot less than putting up a building or even a fence.....

If it was me, and thank goodness it's not, I'd be digging through the local statutes to see if there's a museum or any kind of display permit....don't let 'em know what you're looking for when you're in the courthouse though!

One of the reasons I don"t live in town. People busy in other people"s business. Sorry to hear of your headache.

My serious recommendation would be to sell your house and move outside the city limits. You will always have some neighbor with a bone to pick. Especially if one of them made an issue with this. Even if you get all the required permits to build something to hold them, whoever made this an issue will be upset that the town didn"t stick it to you and will be looking for something else to get you on as long as they know you still have those "pieces of junk" even if inside.

I wish people were different, but I"ve seen this before and have seen how it plays out. You"ll get more for your money in the country anyhow.

Why do you have them in your "front yard" if you are being bothered. Put them back behind that garage. Why show off stuff that others are complaining about?

I suggest building another garage or pole barn for them-no vehicle does well sitting outside. That truck looks pretty nice, but sitting on wet grass all the time will rust the underside, and allow mice and such to get into the vehicle to cause their usual damage.

Looks to me like it is in a backyard, but I could be wrong.

A lot of towns won't permit a barn or equipment shed to be built in town unless it's zoned commercial. You could look into those carports. Most of those can be put up without permits unless you're in the northeast.
