loboy problem

Last weekend I bought the Loboy 184 tractor that I had posted about. Over unit is in good shape. Tractor started right up when I hit the switch. Had it started several times last week as I moved it around for some maintenance stuff and playing with it. Went to start it tonight and its dead - just a faint click at the starter sometimes. No lights either. First though was dead battery. Got out the meter - battery tests find at over 12 volts. However no voltage at the coil. I know I've got ground as I was able to turn starter by jumping from battery to starter. Appears to be a switch problem or something from battery to switch. Are these tractors known for any type of problem like this? Can a switch go bad and not have output on any terminal. Maybe the problem is no power to the switch to start with. I've got a wiring diagram in my I & T manual I bought. Looks simple enough. There are no safety switches on the machine to mess up. Tomorrow I will try to get into the switch and try some testing on the switch. I was looking forward to trying it on the lawn tomorrow to see what it will do. Should be fun working inside a small tractor like this.

When you jumped from battery to starter did you use both "hot" and "ground" cables? If so, check for lost ground. Cubs and Internationals are prone to loose ground at the battery cable from rust, etc.

Yeah, they won't start if the pto switch is left on, or if the pto solenoid didn't release for some reason. --Lee

IF your lights worked before, you have a connection problem at the battery, or the other end of one of the cables. The lights should come on with the key switch off.

Maybe the starter bendex is stuck? If that's the problem, just loosen the starter bolts enough to move the starter out about an inch and it should release. My Super A does this once in a while.

What was the battery voltage when you hit the starter? A bad battery can show good voltage with no load, then drop too low to run anything when a load is put on it.
