Last spring I installed new rear axle seals in my
400. This summer while doing hay and going down a
blacktop, the thing rocks back and forth. I removed
the whole wheel, tire and rim assembly on one side
but on the other side the bolts holding the axle
clamp were frozen. I cut them off with a torch and
removed the tire/ rim and then the center wheel
casting. When I put it back together, I tried my
best to have the rim centered on the cast wheel when
I tightened the clamp bolts and feel I got it really
close. Using a large wrench as a feeler gauge it
checks close but not perfect. The other side that I
did not have apart checks farther off center. How
close do these have to be? I guess I will make up a
go/no go gauge to set them real close to being
centered to see if that corrects it. It will have
to wait untill haying is done so I guess it is a
winter project. At least the axle seals don't
leak
