Quick question, found a 706 with ih motor. It has a spun bearing he says. Everything else worked good. 2,200. Should I take the chance? I have a friend who could do the work reasonably. Thanks in advance..

I would buy it if it were the German Diesel (non glow plug), but would probably only give 1500-1800 if were the 282 (glow plug) since it will likely require head work as well.

The german is definitly the best...If you can get by with just a rod brg, thats cheap. And VERY lucky. If it needs a crank;con rod;OH or other, you could EASILY add over $5000 to it....

The 282 has been an excellent motor for us. A lot depends on your local market. For me, it'd be a little high with spun bearings... but at least you know the issue. How are the tires? Do you trust the guy selling it? If you do (that everything else is good) I might be inclined. If you can get the work done for 2k or so, then I'd say you could be doing well if all else is good.

Yes, the 282 is a fine engine, hopefully I didn't make it sound too bad. It is really good on fuel and has enough power to do what a 706 should do.
Its just that people have had problems with head gaskets. I replaced mine 100+ hours ago (was leaking when I bought it) and have had no problems since. Good luck.
