IH 584 transmission top cover removal questions

I need to remove the top cover on my 584, (late model H shift pattern )

any and all suggestions welcome. Like do all the hydraulic lines need to be unhooked, or can I slide the cover off underneath all of them?

And is there any way around getting the cover off with out removing steering support?

Is there anything else I should be aware of, before digging in?
Thanks,
Jason

Oh, my mistake for not including such. The speed transmission, specifically to get to the 3-4 gear shifter as it is frozen in neutral

Thanks Jim,

I"ve got an I&T manual for the 548 as well... which implies that removing the top cover is fairly simple as unbolting it.

The IH shop manual on the other hand suggests removing the seat/fuel tank assembly, all of the hydraulic lines, and, and, and.. I was hoping someone who has done this could suggest a middle ground.. I guess I will try it the I&T way and see how far progress.

Hi Jason, maybe Warren can help you. He is working on 884 speed transmission which is same as your 584 just a larger engine than 584.

The trans cover and the rear/hi-lo range will require the removal of the lines. They go off and on in a certain sequence, too. The trans cover will have the shift forks attached to the underside so you would have to raise it high enough to clear them over the housing sides.Mark

Thank you Glenn!

I appreciate your offer.

I actually do have the shop manual open in front of me. Most of my
questions/hesitation come from lack of experience and maybe
being over careful. Making progress slowly, and trying not to rush
seems to help.
