6v or 12 v solenoid

I have an IH 340 utility tractor that needs a
starter solenoid. I took the old one off and it is
a DR1465 6v. However, the tractor runs on a 12
volt battery Should I replace the solenoid with a 6
volt one as the one I took off or go with a 12 volt
solenoid. I am not the original owner obviously, so
I don't know what else might have been done to the
electrical system. Thanks

Either one will work but if you have a 12 volt system in the long run the 12 volt solenoid is likely to stand up better then a 6 volt one would. You can use a 6 or 12 volt solenoid and starter on 12 volts but you can not use a 12 volt solenoid or starter with 6 volts

If its now 12 volts (voltage to solenoid) and you have to buy a new solenoid anyway????????? Id use a 12 volt solenoid. A 6 volt can work, but it may or may not (depends on engage time cycle) eventually overheat.
