WD9, what do I do?

Ok, I finally got this thing apart and I can"t, for the life of me, find any pistons or sleeves for it. The ones that came out of it, are trashed.

Talked to a local NAPA store, they talked like they could get me a gasket set made for it, that seemed kind of promising.

Went to a local IH dealer, off chance they might have parts lying around, and they referred me to a machine shop I had done some work with before. Don"t know why I didn"t think of that to start with, guess I like to make it harder on myself..

The fellow said he might know of some folks that had or have some of these tractors and get back with me. That was several weeks ago.

So I now ask this question. Do I scrap the project that I have about $300 and a lot of time in. Or do I try and find someone to make the pistons and sleeves. I have no attachment to this thing other than I always thought it would be cool to have one.

Thoughts?

I think there is someone over on redpower forums that has parts for those , you might try searching their archived forums if someone here doesn"t chime in with a source . They aren"t going to near as cheap as the sleeve and piston kits for the H and M are though.

Google WD-9 pistons and sleeves and the redpower links come up along with some others I haven't checked out.

10-4 on the red power add -- not cheap tho -- if you have not pulled the sleeves try checking the bore then check the pistons for wear -- mayby all you need is a set of rings-- a little play in things make-em run good-- good luck-- Roy

Here's a guy who has them for sale:

Warning: WD-9 parts are not cheap. With a WD-9, you can easily put more money into that engine than the tractor is worth. These pistons & sleeves will run you close to $2000. Weber's won't be too far off of that price either--Justin may not even have a set.

If you do not know the condition of the cylinder head, you might want to have it tested before you lay down the money for the pistons & sleeves.

At RPRU I picked up a page from a vendor that is reproducing Sleeve and Piston sets for the WD 9.
I just looked for it but it must have gone to some far away place. If I find it in the next couple of days I will post the name and amount on the current days site. The price didn't seem to alarm me either.

I cut out an ad from Antique Power a couple of years ago. Don't know if they are still available. Ph. 807.487.2548 Ontario, Canada . Have both a WD-9 and a W-9 so hope I don't ever have to rebuild them.

I believe it is the same engine that the TD9 crawler has in it and there are many of them in the scrap yards.

I have a set of rings and 2 (possibly) good pistons. The other 2 are JUNK! I will make you a heck of a deal on rings. Long story short I ordered them for a 9 that ended up needing more than rings.

I have a rebuilt injection pump and nozzles for a WD9. Customer never came and picked them up. I would let them go for the repair bill 231/757/0064

Carr's Repair, Barwick Ontario or Int'l falls Mn. Same phone that Brain Ab posted. www.carrsrepairvintageparts.com
I met him also at RPRU 2014, seems like a really nice fellow. The flyer that he gave me has price list. $1,700 if buy 3 sets, $2125 for 1 set.

Update.

Machine shop guy came out today to take a look at the project. The crank, he thought looked pretty good. The bearings that came out of it are at .002. That was both main and rods. He didn't see anything immediate on the head as far as cracks go, but said he would want to tear into it a little further before we go much further. He did say, how ever that the pistons didn't look too bad, and that we might still be able to use them. YEAH !!

I did get in contact with someone on a full rebuild kit, Pistons, sleeves, bearings, gaskets, less valves for the head. and yeah, expensive..... But, he had EVERYTHING...

Sflem849, Al Baker, Randy Reidlinger.. How do I go about getting in touch with you guys on your parts?

Thanks again for all the help !!

A visual inspection of the head is not sufficient for a WD-9. They often have cracks that you can't see. It should be tested properly at a reputable shop. I have replaced a few of them, they are getting hard to find and expensive to repair.
