I have a very good running 1953 Super C and would like to put a belly mower on to it to mow the weeds down in my field .
Could some one recommend one to get ?
Not many used ones around my part of the country (VT)Does someone make one that will fit ?

Woods--go to their website, or put "woods mowers" on google, I don"t remember the exact title, you will find prices and probably a dealer.

The Woods L59 for a 60" cut, or L306 for a 72" cut.

Both mowers are still available new with mounting brackets for a Super C.

The problem is a new mower will cost you about 4X what your tractor is worth... A new L59 was North of $3500 last I heard.

Just went to their site and found the mower
looks like a well built machine
I sent a email to the local dealer ,waiting for a quote /reply from them ,will probably be tomorrow as its just about 5 PM here on the East coast .

Paid 2300 for the tractor about 10 years ago
It runs like a top would like to use it more .

Yes but, price a comparable zero turn. Commercial 60" mowers start at around $5000, and go up rapidly for the 60", and VERY rapidly when you talk 72". I paid $3500 for a ZT, and it was $4300 OTD with a spare set of blades.

There are 60" and 72" Woods mowers out there used, but you have to be prepared to wait and watch for them. I got a pretty solid RM59 for $250, but it is a 3-pt hookup.

You can also hang a 3-pt finish more off the drawbar pretty easily, and they are much cheaper than the belly mowers.

"mow the weeds down in my field"

The info the others posted is for FINISHING or, basically LAWN mowers.

If you are going to keep the weeds under control from spring on, and keep it mowed like a lawn, you will be OK.

The belly-mount finishing mowers are NOT what you need if you are going to clean up a field that already has TALL weeds and grass present, plus the tractor doesn't have enough HP for some SERIOUS weed whacking.

I agree, on both counts. What you may want is more of a field mower/brush hog. They are not all created equal. Some are geared lower than others. I have an old Servise brand made locally in Dallas that will give a cut equal to my Woods if you keep the blades sharp.
