lookin at two for sale been sittin fellow said tryed to pull in neutral with tractor but they would not move his tractor just spun ...i figure brakes are probably hung . if i bought. how to free brakes to load thanks yall ........dewy

..

The covers need to come off and the linkage lever is in the road and must be removed first. But they could be stuck in two gears at once, If so the gear lever is taken out and the shift rails moved to alignment in neutral. If the brakes were set and locked down when parked, that is probabl. Taking some ATF or Liquid Wrench/PB Blaster to the linkage and a brass hammer might get them loose as well. Jim

Transmission may be in 2 gears at once. Push in the clutch & try to move the tractor.
If brakes are stuck, disconnect the pedal & remove the screws holding the brake cover. Pry the cover off. You may have to take the brake lever off first; loosen the clamp bolt and split the clamp with a small chisel. Use a modified diagonal cutter(grind the flat side so it comes to a sharp point at the cutting edge) to remove the 1/2 moon key and then the cover should come off.

the fellow said both tractors would not move .havent been moved in long time. thanks againyall dewy

Trans. And axle bearings could be a ball of rust you are southerner . Look close you could have more work than you want.

If the tractor's been sitting a long time, outside, then chances are there is a lot of water in the transmission, and differential. It gets in there thru the 4 bolt holes on the clutch side, and the 4 bolts holes on the brakes pedal side, the 3 in the back are allowed to drain away. Buyer beware !!!

Up to you if you want to drag them or remove the brake covers. Frankly I think the few minutes to pull the brake covers and free up the bands is well worth it considering how much of a pain it is to winch a big lump of dead weight.
