hi all I need advise on trouble shooting an internatioan 826 it has the german diesel engine it is real hard starting lately if he can get her started it will run ok he was told the injector pump is toast (it is a bosch) I heard somewhere along the way that you can put a quart of ATF in the fuel and that might make it work at least temporarly ? I want to trouble shoot it somehow so we dont end up spending lots of $$$ on something that wont fix the trouble he was told a new(rebuilt?) pump would be around $2,000 give or take I ought to be able to get his redone for less than a replacement? any good deisel shops around madison wisconsin that do pump rebuilds ?

Never heard of the ATF thing, but try it-might work...Hard starting could also be low compression. How many hrs? Those Germans are long lifers.I have 2,310(706) and the 358(826).Although II have wondered if the 358 is not "as good" as the 310 is

I dont know of a way to 'troubleshoot/diagnose' a pump on the tractor. You have to remove it and take it to a pump shop.$2000 is about right for a pump rebuild, those pumps are obsolete,so parts are expencive. The tractor is still worth fixing!Call Abilene Machine. They do pumps. We had one done on a JD 4430 coulpe years ago. $1100.We were well satisfied.Run a compression test first before you pull the pump.

DeltaRed does the 826 have the start position on the shut off like the 756?I was just wonndering if the cable could be stretched or even moved and not going completely to the start position.

so the shut off cable has to be pulled partway out when starting? I will check on that first

Yes.Pull it out till you feel some resistance. That is approx half way.Let run for a few seconds,or until it speeds up.Mine seem to start better if the throttle is in the idle position.

When we first got our 826 used back in the 90s, it was hard to start. Bought both air filters new, and new fuel filters and it made a world of difference. Also learned on this 826 it works best to begin cranking it over and then pull the advance just a bit. I have another German diesel (239 in an Int 664) where you just pull the advance just a slight bit after you begin to turn it over with the starter. Pull it half way (as the book says) and it seems to shut the fuel off.

C.R. - These guys can fix your 826 pump if anybody can. totaldieselcare.com

They're just east of I-39/90/94 off of Highway 19 and south in an industrial park. Think you turn south by McDonalds.
