Super C oil pump specs

I just removed the oil pump cover on my super C and sure enough the gasket was blown out. I got a new gasket, planed down the cover and got a new relief spring. Now I need to know the torque specs on the 4 oil pump cover bolts . They are 5/16 bolts. Thanks, Ed

I doubt if there's an official published "spec", but, considering the cover is thin and aluminum, somewhere around 150 INCH pounds is gonna be close. (Based on torque "specs" for automatic transmissions with similar construction.)

Manual said to torque to size and grade of bolt.

You need to get some plastigauge and check the
internal end clearance in the pump. I think they
came originally with 2 gaskets but you may only need
one. I cut my own out of the proper thickness paper
and it really improved the oil pressure.

Thanks Bohn, I looked up that chart on line and it ranges from 12 to 30 ft. pounds for a 5/16 bolt depending what the grade is. These bolt shave no markings on the head other than a raised circle so I have no idea of their grade. 12 ft. converts to 144 in. and that is real close Bobs recommendation.

Russ, I got a new gasket from my dealer for under 5 bucks, it is .005 thick, he said it only takes one gasket and there was only one under the cover but it was blown out in one place and the cover was warped. I worked it down on emery paper on a sheet of glass. I hope to get lots of pressure now, I only had 8 lbs. at idle and 26 wide open (hot)...Thanks, Guys
