Load of Red

Well ok they are not really as red as they used to be. Haven't got the serial numbers but the front one is a non running W450, middle is a MD, runs if pulled to start on diesel side. Has bad flywheel ring gear, rear main leaking as well as trany seal. The back one is a SW6TA with a bad ta (was told he fixed the TA before I bought it)but it runs really good. I keep it up I'll have more IH's than Case tractors. Turned out this was the wrong way to load them.

Why was that the wrong way to load them? Looks pretty good to me. Maybe there's something I'm not seeing. That's a really big load!

Many tractors have loaded rears. That last tractor is making for a lot of 'leverage' on the tail end. Ideally the load should be mostly on the trailer axle, with about 30% (or so) on the hitch. Trailering things too well balanced or even worse, tail heavy, can 'whip-saw' the towing vehicle right off the road. I had it happen to me once because I was in a hurry and thought "it ain't loaded that bad". Never, Ever Again.

Excellent looking find, I"m jealous! Any of us that have hauled much, have got loaded at least once or twice with a unfamiliar load and then got out on the road and found out we wished we could have loaded it differently. Unfortunately a lot of the tines the things we bring home are dead and we can"t rearrange, so we just have to be as careful as we can. I know it"s not ideal, but it is the best we can do. Just looking, I think I would have loaded the 6 pulled on the front, the 450 pulled on in the middle, and the MD backed on in the rear. That"s just me, and how I think I might have tackled it.

I am not a trucker but it looks to me if he had put the MD and W6 on backward he would run out of room with the rear tires of the MD against the tires of the W450.

Yeah, he would've had to run all 3 on backwards to make them fit.

Probably seemed easier at the time to drag the non-running W450 on forwards...
