I have a couple of the red one pictured. Haven't used them yet but can see they'll be handy. Kind of have an idea how they work but not really sure. Could you explain or demonstrate? Pictures would be real nice too.

What was the green one for? John Deere planter chain?
 
They are for detaching several sizes of flat steel chain.

I have a small roll of steel chain handy, I'll snap a photo of how they are used and post it later.
 
Here's a couple of photos for those who have asked how they work.

I also noticed the slots are larger in the IHC version. I'm GUESSING it's older and they are wider to accommodate malleable chain.
