Hello tomorrow I am gonna go to a tractor pull with a transfer

can I get some input please on gear to use and any thoughts
Tractor I am pulling is farmall 560 diesel wide front fasthitch
has 15.5 x 38 loaded tires with 15% tread 3 sets of wheel
weights per side weighs 8960 with me on it
Thanks for any help dan

I have never did a stone boat pull. What kind of tire pressure do you use? I have sled pulled and run 12lbs. pressure in 15.5x38s on a Farmall 450.

that would be low gear pulling, the sled weight rolls forward the farther you go and puts more weight on the skid plate increasing your load. tire pressure depends on track condition. I have run anywhere from 6-12 lbs. use your throttle as you need power so you dont spin out.

Watch the other pullers.Talk to them.Get a copy of the rules. In our antique pulling club,1st gear.As the tires start to spinout, back off throttle a bit till spinning stops, but not so much that you compromise power. Some guys just yank open the throttle and go till it digs a hole. The 'better'/more experience pullers slowly increase throttle till 'full load'. then back off a bit when tires start to spin/slip.Our rules: 5 mph max speed.20" max drawbar hight,18 min drawbar length(center of rear axle to center of hole).Watch the flagger,he's the 'referee/umpire'.I do a lot of flagging for our club.My favorite 'job'.Shown is me pulling my 'modified' 1937 F 12.

For a weight transfer pull, get pressed steel wheels , no calcium, drop most of back weight (most sleds have short chains that pull down on your drawbar); get the 560 in about the 7000 lb class; and never, never let up on the throttle. Momentum is everything on a transfer sled. Did I stress wide open, if you back off the throttle, you might as well turn off the key!!! Most of those sleds drag a little dirt - you'll notice the top pullers yank it off the starting line like they're mad at it - this yanks the sled pan up so that it doesn't dozer dirt. If you're timid on a transfer sled, you lose. Did i say, wide open and never back off.

Get their rules; learn what length chain they use and where it is hooked on their sled (likely low). Get your drawbar as high as allowed; get yourself a chain THAT length and hook to a stump or dozer that low and get your tractor balanced. And when you hook to the transfer sled, yank it. Don't go starting easy in low torque and then shifting up, unless you have 3 or 400 horsepower and need to do that to not get under the turbo. And do not back off on the rpms. Power and momentum is everything on a transfer sled.

I have pulled 560d for years. If you pull from the fast hitch make sure you have plenty of weight on the front mine goes air borne with out it. I pull 6500 and 7500 16.9x38 Im sure you will be in 1st gear with TA ahead.I need at least 2 to 3 100# on the front.

I pull with a 560D WFE with 15.5x38.I pull 7600#,8100# and 8600# (I set my tires pressure@10psi)
Div 1. You have to use 1st gear at our pulls and that is about all it will handle at 8600#.Check rules but our rules have a max of 16in, and I set my fast hitch heighton 16 in and my front end only slightly comes up @8600#. I have several 1st place trophies.Good luck and have fun.

no need to jerk sled ,you will just pi$$ off sled operator it is a tough game to win at but dont give up

+10000 on not jerking the sled. That is the stupidest thing I have heard. Been around tractor pulling a long time and seen many champion pullers. None of them jerk the sled.

So here we go I had to be in the 9500 pound class I took second place tried 3rd gear then had to ta was almost outta power when I spun out
I asked to pull in the 10500 class just for practice and used 2nd gear took first place
Then got in the free for all at first tractor pulled which was a Oliver 99 with Detroit i pulled second and beat him but they let him pull again and got me by 15 feet
I only weighed 8960 have no other weights all the other tractors where weighted right to the limit for each class the Oliver that out pulled me by 15 feet weighed 14500
My head is pretty swollen right now I am really happy 560 had plenty of power in 2nd gear just need more weight now I Guess
Thanks for the input
