I've been trying to get a '38 F20 I've owned for 25 years started again. For various reasons, it sat in my pole barn for at least 20 of those years, never started and never moved. I'd crank it now and then to keep it loose, though.
Well, I cleaned the fuel system all up, and rebuilt the carb, and really cleaned it up-I even drilled out all the passage plugs to clean in there, and then I replaced them with new plugs. New plugs, and a rebuilt magneto. The tractor will start right up on full choke, and idle nicely, but it won't stay running if I try to take it off the choke-the engine speeds up, but then the engine dies if I try to open the choke (even if the tractor is fully warmed up). I've tried to set the idle and main jets to the settings recommended on this form, but nothing changes. If I try to open up the choke, the engine speeds up. and then it stops. If I pull the choke back closed right away, the engine will catch again, and go back to idling well. What should I be looking at?
