Does any body know where I can buy an affordable engine stand that will hold a IH 407 engine
out of a 1456. anybody know how much one of these engines weighs will a stand from harbor freight that is rated at 2000 lbs handle one

the engine is too heavy and will break the engine stand. people i know put the motor on a clean trailer and take it apart. if you have a wrecker you can use that also to hold the engine.

I agree with Daniel. The length of the engine will over dose the structure of the stand. There might only be expensive solutions to the issue unless a used stand was found. The engine does not weigh 2000# but the rating is sure suspect. Using a good cherry picker and working off of horses or cribbing
to turn it might be best. Jim

what idid for mycase 451 engine was get 2 of the heavy duty stands from harbor freight and i put one on each end of the engine. it worked great and i could rool the engine around the shop and still rotate it.

When you get to engines that large you usually side mount them because of the leverage. You could possibly make a new mount or use/modify the factory one.
I like the two stand idea!!!

We put 4020 block on heavy duty rolling bench, picked it up with motor hoist to roll over, worked pretty good.

I would be real leery of motor stand on one end.

Tim S might have some feedback.

The HF stands are questionable both for the
pivot and the length. I have three stands in
the shop that will handle the engine and much
larger , two are planted in the floor and one
is on wheels. Have built jd 404,466 ,case 451,
504 ,and ready to mount an 817 inch waukesha
on it ,wauk was on it when I tore it down.
Also built a larger stand for 855 cummins,
V-12 detroit ,and 903 cummins.

I have a HF stand. It worked ok for a small block V8 but I would not want to make a living with it or put anything larger as in heavier or longer than a small block on it.

If you can fabricate a front support for the HF stand it may work if your not too picky about your tools.
