Super H auxilary hydraulic tank

I have 1953 super h with an auxilary hydraulic tank mounted high under steering column with a seperate hose running to the rear which I assume gives the tractor two-way hydro pressure. Does anyone know if this was an option when new or was it an add-on? thanks much.

That will not make it two-way prior owner needed mo hy fluid to operate what ever he had on the tractor so he just added more capacity with the add-on tank. They never left factory that way.

Hello Bill,

It doesn't look like this does it?

If it does, then you have a factory hyd system from a Stage II Super H. The later SHs were stage IIs.

If it is some sort of fabricated tank, then it is probably a field add on.

Bill, we would need to see a picture but just going by your description, I would have to say that it's an add-on.

Super H's came with one of two different hydraulic systems:

1. Distributor driven LiftAll (aka "live hydraulics")
2. Countershaft driven LiftAll (aka "belly pump")

Brian's picture shows the live hydraulic system. A belly pump system would be tucked up underneath the tractor where the only thing you'd see is the lever sticking out the side of the "transmission housing."

Bill, anything hydraulic except operating rods or a selective lift valve on the steering post or light bar is a add on. Brian just curious, is the two way valve you mounted have the return line circling to the same port as used on this one?

D Slater,

This isn't my tractor. I just found the pic on YT mag of a SH hyd reservoir and used the link.

My SH has the fittings on the 2-way valve like yours does. Much cleaner.
