KEEP AN M RUNNING

I HAVE A 1950 "M" THAT WAS STARTING AND RUNNING GREAT. A FEW WEEKS AGO I TOOK IT FOR A RIDE. I GOT ABOUT 1/2 MILE DOWN THE ROAD AND IT STARTED SKIPPING AND FINALLY QUIT. I CHOKED IT AND IT STARTED UP BUT WANTED TO STALL SO I PUSH THE CHOKE IN IT RAN FOR A FEW SECONDS AND STARTED TO STALL SO I PULLED THE CHOKE OUT. AS LONG AS I KEEP PUSHING IT IN AND PULLING IT OUT I CAN KEEP IT GOING. YESTERDAY, I DRAINED THE TANK, USED A MAGNET TO GET AS MUCH RUST AS I COULD OUT,CLEANED THE SEDIMENT BOWL, REBUILT THE CARB AND ADDED AN INLINE GAS FILTER & FRESH GAS - IT"S STILL DOING THE SAME THING. HELP

First off an in line fuel filter is likely to cause problems since most are made for fuel systems wit ha pump. Good chance you did not clean the carb as well as it needs to be cleaned. You have to soak a carb 24 hours and use a small wire etc to poke out all the passage ways and also blow them out and spray them out with carb cleaner. I use a torch tip cleaner tool to poke out the passage ways

Might not be your problem, but the symptoms sound like what it would do if the float needle valve is sticking.

Had a similar experience with my SH a couple years ago. In my case, the float was half full of gas.

Old is right, rebuilt means nothing unless you completely disassemble and get everything absolutely clean. Really, most carbs don't even need to be rebuilt, they just need a thorough cleaning.

I've had lots of crap in the fuel lines of my tractors over the past couple of years. Twice it was stuff in the screen at the carb (and I have a screen in the sediment bowl). Just the the issue this weekend with my M.Took out stuff that liked like roots growing. Tractor ran great after that.
