I have a '69 model 656 hydro which has been a great tractor. I'm looking at adding a larger, older IH for some new land we have. Looking for something in the 70 to 75 BHP range & would like to have the hydrostatic drive as well.

Anyone suggest a good model that would fit what I want?

Further, any idea if IH used the same oil & fuel filter elements for the 656 diesel on other tractor models? It may be a minor concern but it would simplify my parts inventory a little if that were the case.

Thanks,

Gary

706, 806, 756, 856... any of those in a diesel would be a logical step up.

An early 706 diesel would use the same filters, as both tractors run the D282 diesel. The engine filters are completely different on the other models.

Frankly a 706 diesel and possibly even a 756 would not be much of a step up from your 656 power wise. I would shoot for an 806 or 856. Not only to get more power, but also to get away from the D282 and its potential starting issues, and the D310 and the potential bank-braking overhaul cost, with the distinct possibility of not being able to get parts for the injection pump.

fuel filters are the same on d282 and d361, so that will include 560,656,706 early,806

oil filters also the same, 282 uses 1; 361 uses 2
