Having a little trouble with the Farmall M

Was messing with the M yesterday, just had it sitting and idleing and it shut off,,was not out of gas, got to looking at it and the pipe that runs up from the carb. up to the exhaust manifold was sweating and was actually very cold. Let it sit for a minute and it started up and ran fine , but I noticed the pipe was still sweating and very cold, I had never noticed it doing that before,,,Thoughts on why this is happening.................

It iced up the idle ports above throttle plate and shutting down for a bit melted it. You just hit perfect temp and humidity for that to take place. Think refrigeration, air conditioning. Expansion (vaporization) of liquid takes heat from surrounding sources thus it ran out of heat source and froze up. Not the exact correct explanation of what takes place but you get the idea.

I have that same problem on Farmall B but only in cold weather and it will build frost on the intake manifold tube from carb. I made device that suck warm air from around muffler and down through carb. and stops that. I take it off in summer. If picture comes up you can see it.

(quoted from post at 11:54:40 08/17/14) I have three M Farmalls. They all sweat like that and sometimes even get frosty. Absolutely nothing to worry about. Ellis

I agree there is nothing wrong, and really nothing to fix, but it sure does make them run rough for awhile.

I have NEVER had one freeze up, but I have seen them sweat. Most of the ones that I have seen that do that are painted manifolds. That area doesn't get hot enough to burn the paint off.

Spring and fall are usually worst problem around here because there is enough humidity in the air and temp falls in the correct range for freeze up. In the winter air is usually too dry to hold enough water BUT, big exception, if bucking snow or it is snowing out that will put enough moisture in the air to really freeze them even at higher speeds. The heat stove around the muffler and leading into the air cleaner really works good to cure that problem. I see them manifolds with cakes of ice on the outside so you know wht is inside also.
