Can anyone give me an idea, in general 'cause I know you haven't seen my ground, how much disk I can pull with an IH 1586...has good power, duals, loaded inners, weights. I have a 25' Krause folding disk and it pulls it like it is not there. If a 30' were to happen along, would it be an option or too much?

In my part of Northwest Iowa most 1586's pulled a 24 foot disk. The 1586 played with it in cornstalks but it had all it could pull in plowed ground. Jim

I could see that. I was pulling the 25' Krause in chiseled land that had a fair amount of moisture in it. Realistically, it was too wet in places but we were into June and looking like we would not get another chance to put the corn in. Tractor never really had a problem with the Krause even when the ground was heavier. I have a chance to pick up a 30' CIH 496. Thought I might buy it if the tractor can handle it. Not everyone who used one was happy with it. Not sure why, seems to be the same design as 490 and others?

Depends on how heavy the disk is. We pulled two 28 foot disks one was a 490 and one was a 496 with a 1486 and a 1586 for years. The 490 was a way better disk IMHO. Went away from disking awhile back. Started to do some more disking again lately in certain places. Have a 305 magnum and it played with that old 490. It wasn't even fair. So we traded up to a 30 foot Landoll disk. Now it's everything it's got for that 305 to pull that disk 6mph. The Landoll also weighs in at just over 16,0000 lbs too.

Mind me asking why the 490 was better? Looks the same as the 496 to me.

Wish I could explain it. Just never seemed to be as good of a disk. Seemed tougher to get set right and seemed not as strong. When we went to more ridge till and a second disk was no longer necessary, the 496 was the first to go. Not a real good explanation, I know, but many I've talked to seem to say the same.
