15/30 Question

A good running 15/30 followed me home today. Has any one ever seen an electric starter adapted to start it using the belt pulley?

There are all kinds of homemade starters, I saw a F-20 with a Chevy flywheel and starter running from the PTO. I have seen a belt driven running from the front V pulley to a starter hanging under the motor,and yes I have seen them run from the belt pulley.

I know someone who has a 22-36 that he fitted an electric start to. The starter is down in the cast iron chassis tub out of sight. I recall he said he used a 12v Hitachi gear reduction starter and I think he said the ring gear was made from a Honda flex plate. It did require him to cut a chunk out of the tub and he formed a sheet metal cover to disguise it. It was well done and the only tip off at first glance was the battery box and cables.

Kncuklerskinner, first off, welcome to the site. Secondly, take a look at this video, and consider whether or not you still need to add an electric start to your 15-30.

A correctly tuned 15-30, good carb, decent overall condition will start without much effort.....................
