I am trying to seperate the engine from the clutch housing. Its moved enough so i can see the dowel alignment pins but no more. Shouldnt the drive shaft slide out of clutch or am i missing something. What else do i need to do?

You are on the rite track just keep using your pry bar a little on each side and soon it will come apart as those dowel pins can be tricky. Shine them up when putting it back together goes lots easier. Put your belt pulley in gear when going back and turn it over so the splines will mesh helps a bunch

The dowel pins are shiny and dont seem to be the problem. I think the drive shaft could be the problem where it attaches to back of engine. Rusted?

On my super A I used wooden wedges. I guess I was lucky enough to have a bunch lying around - not sure I'd use them if I had to make them just for the job.

But they worked well. I just tapped a bunch in all around - keep tapping them in further. The combined pressure from all of them put a good amount of force between the two halves and separated it.

I am getting ready to try the wedges. But i need to add info that i didnt include in my original post. This engine is completely stuck and i cant rotate it if i need to remove any bolts from back of engine. Cant get to them anyway. Looking at the cross section view looks like the driveshaft spline goes thru clutch and thats it. The driveshaft should just pull out of the clutch as the two halves separate. Sorry. Just trying not to break anything.

I'll guess there is a buildup of rust or other crud on the driveshaft splines, ahead of the clutch disc. Probably the worst damage you will do by forcing it would be to damage the clutch disc, and it probably needs replaced anyhow.
