Stage 2 h or m hydraulics

I am making a Farmall 350 into a Super H T/A. I am eliminating the steering/hydraulic control and want to add a 54 Super H stage 2 unit that sits on the torque tube, My question is can I also use the one off a super M, is it the same size as the SH. Thanks in advance for your help.

They are basically the same. The only difference is the return port to the hydraulic pump. On the SH it is in the lower front corner facing forward. On the SM, it is on the lower front corner facing to the side. Other than that, no reason it wouldn't work.

On a different note, are you swapping out the transmission top deck plate with an H/SH top to get the SH shifter and steering mounting? This is not all that difficult to accomplish and it makes the tractor look much better.

Putting a fast hitch on it too? May as well dress her all up.

Same size but SH has suction and pressure openings facing the front. Does have a pressure opening on the right side that's plugged. SM has openings on the right side and the operating lever will extend to the right more than a SH. On a SH also the left two mounting holes are slotted.
Few other differences but nothing to keep one from working since you need to make up mounting and are probably going to use plain hydraulic hose to pump.

Brian; I want it to look like it would have been built between the H'S AND THE 300-350. I bought a H for the sheet metal, gas tank, steering post, etc. so I do have a deck and shifter. I had not got that far in the thought process but it sounds like a plan. Thanks.

Sounds cool. I am putting one together too. Mine is coming out of many many parts. Just like the Johnny Cash song, I got it one piece at a time. Only I am gonna have way more than a dime in it. Probably the most expensive way to build a tractor.

yeah, sounds cool, but just wait til you drive up to the court-house to get the tags....

that"s from Johnny Cash"s song "One Piece At A Time", after he"d stolen one piece at a time for his Cadillac, over several decades. He drove the thing up to the courthouse to get the tags, everybody laughed for blocks around, but up at the courthouse they didn"t laugh, becuase to type it up it took the whole staff, and when they got done the title weighed 60 pounds.
Great song.
I was referring to the comment above about Cash.

Yea, they don't as factory. But they are easily modified. It just takes some thought and layout work. Compare both tops side by side and you can figure where each fork needs to be.

No-the appropriate One Piece a time lyric would be "when we tried to put in the bolts all the holes were gone" You're taking parts that were not intended to bolt together and bolting them together so of course some improvising will be needed.

Probably need to "drill it out so that it would fit, and with a little bit o'help from an A-daptor kit, we had that engine running just like a song..."

Ron,

One other thing I just remembered. The regular H gas tank may not work depending on the hydraulic unit location. If you use the stock SH location, the fuel sediment bowl will interfere. You will either need to get a late SH tank (almost impossible to find) or cut the bottom of the H tank sump out and move it to the position of the SH. Make sure the tank is clean and gas vapor free when doing that work!!!
