Glue for a belt

Has anybody tried to fix a belt with glue? I have a six sided belt on my combine that has a slice half way through, but otherwise in good shape. Super glue, contact cement, or just replace? I only have 30 acres to combine and would like to wait until next year to order a new one. Thanks.

Definite "No" to super glue or contact cement. Those types of glue dry hard and crystalize. In other words, they do NOT flex at all and will crack like glass when flexed which will happen on a belt.

Have no idea, if there is some commercial products available, but would not hurt to try "Shoe Goop" or "Amazing Goop" or "Household Goop" (all pretty much same stuff just marketed different). Available almost anywhere and reasonably cheap. Flexible and designed to stick to rubber. Will it work? Have no idea.

Give it a try and see what happens. Unless of course it shreds
and takes out a bunch of wiring when it goes. BTDT

You may be surprised how long that belt runs anyway. Half way through last year I noticed the same thing on the MoCo. Finished the year and did half if this year before I replaced it. The worry about it is the worst to me.

If I was going to do it I would use super glue. Put it in where the belt is gapped the most and then roll the pulley until it is closed.

only way to fix that is with a new belt. the flat belts are fixed with belt lacing. just a thought but maybe could use some leather and drill couple holes on each side of slice and use the brass rivets to rivet the leather on the bad side. thing is then you will not have it fitting the pulleys properly. na don"t think it will work have to run it till it breaks.

I have seen belts that were fixed by drilling small holes on each side of crack and lacing together with leather or other types of tough string or even wire. That is if the splice runs on top of or in the grove and not on the v sides. Would also depend on the amount of pressure on the belt. Don't know if that will work in you situation with the 6 sided belt, but might be worth a try.

Won't hurt to try I guess but I'd be sure to get a new one ordered. If you know the size go to an industrial bearing and belt shop and order it. A hex belt like that for my Deere rider was around $80 but I bought a good year belt through Amazon that was less than half that.

I'd get a new belt, stash it and the tools to install it in the combine and start mowing.

Back in the 60's I remember my dad having some type of leather glue that was designed for the old, flat belts used with belt pulley type tractors.

I think it was meant to be used in conjunction with stitching etc.

But this was for leather material.

There is no fix I am aware of for modern type V belts or combine belts. Just too much stress and tension.

Get a new one I guess

Might work long enough to finish, IF you can get it clean enough inside the crack.
