6cyl into a 504

I have a 504 and was wondering if there is a 6cyl that would bolt in..it is a diesel tractor and would be used to brushog and such..motor in it has problems and I like the 6cyl better than the 4cyl..thanks for the advice

If you like a 6 cylinder, you should trade that 504 for a 656, or maybe even a 706.

The IH 6 is not a good transplant choice. The chassis is not really designed for the power increase, and everything forward of the trans would need modification. Anything can be done, but the result would not be cost effective. Why not a nice V6!! Less work, and better fit. Jim

I've always thought about doing something similar with my gutless 504 only using the 4 cyl H engine. The 504 I call a "Glorified Super C"

deene, I am with the others here. For the Time, Effort, $$$MONEY$$$, spent. You are farther ahead of the game by selling the 504 go find a 656, or 706 to replace it with Waaay too many decent tractors to be had in the $3000 to $6000 range!!!
If you had the bones for a HP swap, Like the Cummings conversion in to the Olivers great! but put that bigger HP engine in and watch the other weak points rise to the surface!
I know of 806s IH that can be bought for $3K all day long! Hope this helps!

I have two 504s and one 656, just sell the 504 and buy a bigger tractor.

Bolting a 6 cylinder to the clutch housing would probably be the easiest part of the swap. About the drive train holding up. they are just as strong or stronger than some 460 with a 6 cylinder. 504 has a good bit steeper ring and pinion gear reduction though.
Think all 504 have 2.75 diameter axles unlike some 460 that have 2.5 axles.

I had a gut-less 504 too. I had the same problem others had with it. Nice looking tractor and drove nice. But it had no power and burnt allot of gas for no more work than it would do.
I would also recommend just trading it off like I did mine.
