What other gas tanks will fit a 340?

Needing a usable gas tank for my T340 Crawler, friend has a 340 farmall tractor & hood & gas tank is the same also looks like a 240 might work, but drains in the middle instead of on left side. Is there any other options for this tank on other models? i thought someone on here would know. have not found any tank near this yet.
any info or wherabouts of a tank near Indiana would help. Thank you Gene

Whats wrong with the old one?Unless it's completely gone...Most tanks can be cleaned and/or repaired

I have repaired several tanks & put in liner,
this tank is rotted all over, worst i have ever seen, can't find a spot to weld any repairs onto. pinholes all over & after got loose stuff out it is paper thin and one corner came out the size of my fist. tapping to get rust to come loose and so thin hammer went through above seam. so i think i need one that has enough metal left to repair. thanks Gene

I checked the IH on-line parts catalog and same tank assembly (part no. 369215R91) is used on both the gas and diesel 340 International and Farmall tractors. I could not locate the on-line parts catalog for a T340 Crawler so was unable to advise if the they use the same tank as the other 340 models. I do know the 240 fuel tank is different and is not suitable for a 340. The Farmall 404 and 240 used the same fuel tank and if the 504 is the follow-on model for the 340 it uses a different fuel tank so no match there. Good luck in finding a replacement tank as it sounds like you certainly need one but if it is the same as other 340's should be able to locate in a salvage yard, Hal.

Hal, I also went on line and the diesel fuel tank is different, 375099R91. Very confusing as in listing for both gas and diesel 340 utility there are two listings for tanks. One for diesel and one for gas is how I read it.

So I found probably a used diesel tank 375099R91 listed at Wenger's of Myerstown, Pa. However I can't tell blueridge if it will work. The saddle for mounting the tank is same part number, 369223R91 but of course there is a difference in the diesel tank over gas since they carry different part number. Visual inspection of the parts illustration the difference I see is shut off valve with no sediment bowl on diesel and sediment bowl in illustration on gas model. So probably a different thread size in bottom of tank creating a different part number on tank ? Maybe it could be adapted but I wouldn't want to have a tank shipped in from somewhere and then find it could not be made to work. The other flaw is I can't find a paper or computer parts list on the T-340 to make sure it uses the same tank as wheel tractor. I would guess it the same but that would not make me sure enough to order and have a tank shipped only to find that, Oh, there is a difference ! I did my research at the Dealership where I retired from and work some part time at.

blueridge, will continue to try to find something for you.

Bill

blueridge, Wenger's of Myerstown phone number is 800-451-5240. They show they have 375099R91 which is a tank for 340 wheel tractor, diesel. I do not know if you could adapt to your T-340 which I assume is a gas model ?

TractorHouse, dismantled machine section, show a T-340 being dismantled at All State Ag Parts in Wisconsin. 877-530-2010. They do not say whether it is gas or diesel.

Bill

The same dismantled machine section in TractorHouse show 24 dismantled 340 wheel tractors around the country if only we were sure the wheel tractor tank would fit the crawler. If you care to tell me where you are located I could see if one of the 24 would be close enough to you that you could go see it . Also need to know if you have gas or diesel. Diesel I believe was rare in the 340's.

Bill

Thanks guys for all your help.I am in Indiana, 40 miles west of Indy, and i would sure like to look at a tank before i bought it. The T340 is a gas & i have a friend that has a 340 gas tractor & we measured the tank the best i could on tractor & it is the same as the crawler. also the hoods are the same, i got this crawler running with a plastic garden tractor tank on it now, I just
play with it in the pasture running around it is only a puller, no blade or hydraulics. It's not painted yet. Gene

The fiche for the crawlers shows the same tank for both the T-340 and TD-340, although the fittings and lines that hook to the bottom are different between the T and TD.

It shows the tank to be 375099R91, which is what others of you gave for the 340 Diesel wheel tractors. It also says it will work for 3692xxR1, where the fiche is too damaged to read the xx. So there evidently was an earlier number for the tank but I can't tell you what it was.

Bill, How I determined the 340 Farmall and International gas and diesel models used the same fuel tank 369215R91 was through the CaseIH on-line parts catalog available on Messick's website. The fuel tank there was listed as an assembly consisting of the tank, fuel cap and cap gasket only (Ref: #5) and the actual tank part no. was not noted for any of the different four part applications. In looking at the fuel system attachments on the bottom of the tank they were different between the gas and diesel models as you noted. I would think Wengers could see if the sediment bowl/shut-off valve for the gasoline applications would fit the threads in the diesel tank they have for sale and other then that they should be the same if their part catalogs are correct, Hal.

Thanks Jim, Good ol' microfiche. Used them a lot looking up parts for IH, MF, and Ford during my years as a parts man.

Tough change from books to fiche, tougher from fiche to computer. Like anything else , after you get used to the new, it seems best. Hate it that some of the older units not on computer. But I understand not enough use to go to expense of putting it on.

Well now to do more searching for a used tank for blueridge. Did find out that 504 gas and diesel take the 375099R91 tank if before serial #14272. So gives more units to look for.

Thanks again, Bill

blueridge, Thanks to Jim Becker for verifying on microfiche that 340 and T-340 tanks are the same. Also found out IH 504 UTILITY tank is same. Farmall 504 tank is different.

Now with this good info still did not find any 340 or 504 dismantled tractors in Indiana on Tractor House site. Roberts Farm Equipment in Camden, Ohio do show a 340 and 504. SW Ohio but still a ways for you.

Might call Wenger's of Myerstown, PA. I would assume that is used ? But could be new. A used fuel tank would be tough and expensive to ship I would think.

Checked your local salvage yards ? Some have a network that they can check other yards for you.

Good luck and if I hear of anything else I will let you know. There are a lot of 340 and 504 listed around the country at www.tractorhouse.com under the dismantled section if you care to check.
Bill

blueridge, Just saw in Tractor House Dismantled Machines section that All State Ag Parts in Black Creek, WI has a T-340 dismantled for parts. 877-530-2010.
