Timing an A

I've been trying to time my A as described on here earlier and according to the IT manual. I've got the timing mark lined up and it did not trip the impulse coupling. When I turn the mag counterclockwise to trip the coupling I have no more room to move the mag.Is moving the gears for the rotor the fix or is there something else that needs to happen. Right now #1 plug fires at the 11:00 position on the mag.

"Is moving the gears for the rotor the fix"

STOP and think about that for a minute... HOW is messing up the rotor-breaker point timing gonna make the impulse trip when it is supposed to???

If you have the marks lined up at the flywheel and the top of the mag rotated as far away from the block as it will go and the impulse hasn"t tripped, the timing gears are out of time... HOPEFULLY, just the governor/mag drive gear.
If you HAVE already messed up the rotor timing...

Make a mark on the body of the mag where the cap fits. Then turn the mag over till the rotor stops if it dont stop at the mark move the gear that turns the rotor. Place that mark where #1 wire goes to the plug. Now also make sure #1 piston is at the top on compression. You can rmove the plug and look in there to see if the piston is at TDC
