Farmall B chasing

I have a Farmall B with a 5' woods finish mower.
It starts right up and runs fine. When I engage the PTO & start to mow it will rev up and die over and over. It sounds just like the governor hunting or chasing. If I Disengage the PTO it acts normal no racing . What could cause this & how do I correct it ?
Thanks for any help.

run the carb butterfly manually and see if the engine keeps up or stalls out under load.

many times hunting can be a lean condition ( fuel blockage or otherwise ).

can also be bad gov or one with comp springs set with preload or slack depending ont he gov linkage setup and type.

If it has been sitting up for a while, drain the bowl on the carb, blow out the fuel line, and clean the bowl under the tank even if it looks clean. Be sure a good steady stream of gasoline flows to the carb (reverse the fuel line and turn the fuel valve on). If it has been a several months since it ran it might take more than one time through this process to get it to consistently run correctly. Do this before you start messing with the carburetor settings. If it ran well and just started giving trouble I would suspect water in the gasoline which also gives trouble under load. Make sure the fuel line has no loops and has a continuous down slope from the tank to the carburetor.

Most of the carbs on these tractor do not have an adjustable main jet so what you say will not work

Adjustable main jet or nonadjustable??? If adjustable try opening it up a bit. If non remove the main jet cover plug and make sure you get a good fuel flow out of it. If poor flow clean it out with a small wire etc

Your gov needs some attention. The input shaft mite be worn and bumper spring is also bad rusted or even broke then set carb linkage correct and it would be ready to go.
