Farmall B final drive

W.E.Hebbard made shop mules out of As and the rotated the finals had to do some work for the brake bands but yes you can do it. I Guy i know did it to an A he is making a "lowboy" out of one he made a slot for the brake rods and relocated the bands to do it so if you can figure out the brake system do it. Hebbard made new linkage to do it and mounted the brake bands in their original place. You will need to drill new holes to bolt it up but thats not hard to do. Then you will need to make a new pedestal for the front wheels but the axel assy can be used forthat just cut it off and weld a plate on top to fasten to the steering sector. Or just make a wide front. Go for it. Now i made a plate on the lathe for the bolt pattern on the rear welded it to 15in rims and use 235x15 rear tires. Made a new pedestal and used 13in spares for tires so the tractor sets level. If you want to do that i can make you some plates to bolt to the rear axles and you can weld them to any rim you like.

The Hebard shop mules have an adapter plate between the final drive and the transmission housing. The holes are not evenly spaced so you can't just rotate the housings. I suppose one could drill and tap new holes in the transmission housing or just drill new mounting holes in the final drives. Doing that might weaken things as I'm guessing there are thicker areas where the holes are located. It's been awhile since I had the finals off my shop mule.

Some day i need to have my Dau show me how to post pics. You would also like my loader on another B even has quick tash. That B spent a few yrs in Pitkin where we had a place 1mi up from Pitkin. It would set under the house all winter and always started rite up next spring when we could get there. Our place was at the 10,00 ft line i had a datum map of the area. Was even in the 4th July parade in Gunnision. Split lots of wood went for rides in the area with trailer and refreshents. Was fun getting water from the spring where we had acess for 300 gal per day. Many fond memories of that area. Still think its one of the best places in the state.

Pitkin IS a beautiful place! My motherinlaw used to preach in the Community church there from time(for over 25 years) to time.We would go up with her sometimes.

I rotated mine 90 degrees to the front. Upside down would be too low in my opinion for any real use. I wanted the brake rods in the factory position so I had to rework the inside of the finals to make it happen. Had to drill some new mounting holes as it has been said the holes are not evenly spaced. Built some new brackets to relocate fenders and reworked the drawbar. I cut down the front spindles to match. Lowers the tractor 8 1/2 inches. It's a lot of work, but a good winter project!!
