double bottom plow

1959 140 coverted to 3pt hitch. Looking at a heavy duty 3pt hookup double bottom plow weighing 500 pounds. Do you think the 140 can lift and pull this plow??

Although it is possible you could lift and pull that plow with your tractor with some front end weights and light soil, I believe you would be happier with a lighter single bottom plow.

bottom plows come in a variety of sizes. width of cut is how they size them. if the plow is a smaller size, the tractor should pull them alright.

maybe you could hitch to the plow and try before you buy

A lot of 140s were originally sold with a pair of 14 inch bottoms. Sometimes, this was to much plow depending on soil type. With weights all around and maybe fluid loaded rears tires you would probably be OK in lighter soils (sandy). Used front and rear weights are readily available. I see you have rear weights.

In areas with heavier soils(clay)a better match would usually be a single 16 bottom.

If you go with the plow you are considering you probably find the front end to be very light without adding front wheel weights.

You wont have any draft for that plow you need to get a plow thats made for that tractor as they were available. That plow will be probably too heavy and your front wheels will come up.

If you do try to pull it make sure the spring relaease on the plow hitch is working. This will keep your tractor from flipping over backwards when your plow decides to stop moving.

HP is not going to be your concern if it's a 2x12 or 2x14" plow. Traction and picking it up with the 3 point on this type tractor is the problem. A 3 point on these is operated off the Touch Control IIRC and that's not much of a 3 point system.

Yeah, and it will rock from side to side and beat you to death until you can get the clutch in.
