I Just got a old m diesel running and it seems to run fine it"s a very early one and sounds different than my later one only questions I have is the valve train seems noisy but tractor has great oil pressure & I changed oil and also I hear like a popping noise not really loud but hear it in air cleaner assy is this normal?

Have you had the valve cover off to look if everything looks okay under there? Not normal, could be push rod bent or out of position. Valve spring weak or broke. Or valve just plain not seating (sealing) properly. Never worked on one of those gas switch to diesel jobs, but I'm pretty sure they have two sets of intake valves one for each fuel.

Popping into the air cleaner is usually an exhaust valve not opening, check for a bent push rod and clearances.

Nope, they have a compression relief valve in the head leading to a spark plug. the gasoline is introduced through the diesel intake valve from passages in the intake manifold. Setting the valve lash is important. Jim
