6 volt coil

I have finished converting my SMTA to electronic ignition. I bought a 40,000 volt coil and gaped the plugs for .40. I had to make a special little bracket for the coil. As most of you know, the coil on the SMTA has the coil wire in one end and the plus and minus hookup in the other end and is about 3/4 inch shorter than the M coil. Does anyone know of a source for an SMTA .40 coil? Thanks, Ellis

If you want to keep it stock looking, you will need to keep the original, as they are not extreme capacity coils, but plenty adiquate for the tractor. A spark system only supplies enough to make the spark, usually less than 15,000v. If no issue with looks, just extend the wires. Jim

It does not. The spark voltage never gets higher than the plug gap voltage. Even at .040" the voltage will only ger to 18,000 or so. There are race cars and exotic engines with conditions that could see 40,000, but the coil fires the plugs when the voltage ionizes the fuel and air in the spark gap. There is no way for it to go higher. If it is firing on all cylinders, the coil is OK. Jim
